“Along my journey to a better understanding of traditional textiles, I met a Bhutanese mother-and-daughter duo of weavers—they had a booth at the 2026 Convergence. Intrigued by their backstrap weaving technique, I spent a few hours with them, to learn more about them and their weaving. (One of the fascinating anecdotes they shared was that the mother, a master weaver, had been a weaver to the king of Bhutan.) In the talk, I will speak of their lives in Bhutan, their culture, and their weaving traditions, which are central to Bhutanese society, past and present.”
